FOUR of the British Dressage Young Riders (BYRDS) in the area made the trip to Sheepgate Equestrian Centre in Boston, Lincolnshire, for the under 25s national championships.

Jack Wainwright, from Fridaythorpe, rode had a busy time, riding in six tests over the five days of the competition. His horse, Dark Bacardi, roseis proving to be a quick learner rising through the levels fairly quickly, bringing home a third place in the novice, a third and eighth in the elementary, sixth in the music freestyle and a seventh in the novice semi final.

Eleven-year-old Jessica Sanderson and her pony, Littlebyrom Patchwork, from Strensall, took part in the prelim championship sections gaining a third and sixth along with a team third.

Ellie Fairclough, from Sheriff Hutton, and Abbey Park were also in the prelim sections along with Jess, and finished equal sixth and 10th along with a team third with Jessica Sanderson.

Amy Small and Triumph VD Laarseheidi Z, from Hopgrove, York, brought had a cracking two days bringing home a first in the novice music freestyle with 72.27 per cent, fourth in the young horse, third in the style, second in the novice challenge and a 10th in the junior derby.

Amy, Jack and Ellie will now be busy preparing to represent their clubs atfor the British Riding Club’s championships in Lincolnshire showground on September 6 and 7.
