Local rider, Kiera Colgan, from Burythorpe and her pony Moyvoon Piper are carving out a name for themselves in the equestrian world as they excel through the ranks of British Eventing.

Moyvoon Piper, known affectionately at home as Tommy, is a Grade A pure bred Connemara 14.2 gelding. He was bought unseen from Ireland as a novice five year old by her father, Adrian Colgan.

Kiera, who is sixteen, has brought him on through the ranks of Pony Club and local riding club activities onto British Show jumping and now British Eventing. Tommy commenced his British Eventing career when contesting a BE80 at Frickley Park in September 2013. This was followed by three BE90 level competitions in April, May and June 2014

The pairing has rapidly moved up through the levels and recently contested their first BE100 at the prestigious Buckminster course where they performed double clear jumping rounds to finish on their dressage score of 41.5. Tommy excels in the cross country phase and has taken on the fences with gusto to complete a clear jumping round on each outing to date.

“Buckminster was a big course with a good degree of technicality, it was fantastic to be riding the same day as Nicola Wilson and Piggy French, I am very proud of Tommy, he is a brave little man and I am happy with our progress together. My goal is to compete at Novice level very soon” said Kiera

Kiera would like to thank her trainer, Christopher Whittle, who she has a great respect for and finds time to help her relentlessly even though he is busy with his own eventing yard. Chris was on-hand at Buckminster to provide support and a few helpful words of advice which did not go unheeded on by Kiera on the day.
