TALENTED maths students at Malton School had a chance to test their nerves and show off their problem-solving skills by taking part in the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Challenge.
Based in the school of mathematics at the University of Leeds, the UKMT Junior Challenge is aimed at students in Year 8 or below. The challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes, in school, under exam conditions.
The leading 40 per cent of students across the country receive a gold, silver or bronze award and each school receives a Best in School certificate.
About 1,200 top performing students are then invited to take part in the national Junior Mathematical Olympiad.
