'GOOD eggs' at Norton College have helped others in the local community by holding a collection for the Ryedale Foodbank.

Following a presentation by coordinator Lesley Hurley, the sixth form has set up a foodbank group as part of their enrichment time.

Head of sixth form, Gemma McDonald, said they decided that a campaign called 'Be A Good Egg' would encourage students to bring in an Easter Egg and donate to the foodbank.

"We collected approximately 50 eggs which we were really pleased with," she added.

"The students like to make a difference within the community and are planning more activities to collect more food for the foodbank which will be a whole school initiative run by students during their enrichment time."

Di Keal, from Malton, Norton and Districts Lion Club, which is working with the school to raise the profile of Ryedale Foodbank, said: "The Lions are delighted to see that sixth form students from Norton College are getting involved in supporting the Ryedale Foodbank and have donated so many Easter eggs that will be distributed to people in our community who need it's support.

'The Lions are working with the students to raise the profile of the Foodbank in the community. As well as donating some treats for Easter, some of the students will also be volunteering at the Foodbank itself and learning more about how it operates.

She added: "Malton, Norton and District Lions want to encourage young people to get actively involved in our community supporting local organisations and charities and Norton College is very keen to get involved."
