THE new Senior Student Leadership Team of Lady Lumley’s School has been elected, with Dan Peace as head boy and Beth Rose as head girl.

Deputy head boys are Oliver Fearn and Toby Mennell, with deputy head girls Rosie Collier and Evie Sellars.

Last week, a dozen brave Year 12 students put themselves through the potentially terrifying experience of speaking to their sixth form peers in the hustings for the posts of head boy and girl and deputy head boy and girl.

The speeches given were the usual high-quality affairs, with a smattering of jokes, some excellent, some quite bad, and each unique.

Following the speeches, students were asked to give one vote each to the people they wanted for the post of head boy and the head girl.

On Wednesday, the selection process continued and each candidate was interviewed by a panel of three staff, a school governor and one of the existing senior student team.

Deciding among the students was very difficult because there were some very impressive contenders for the most senior student posts in the school.

After much deliberation, the panel decided to take the unusual step of creating two deputy head posts to work alongside head boy and head girl.

Headteacher Richard Bramley said: “There were some very impressive contenders. Congratulations to all the students who did so well in the hustings and interviews and special congratulations to our new senior student team.”

Dan and Beth said: “It is a real honour to be appointed as head boy and head girl at Lady Lumley’s School. As our school ethos states ‘Lady Lumley’s has the capability and desire to be even better’.

“Our senior student positions give us the opportunity to become an active part of this process. It also gives us the chance to participate in decisions and discussions which affect us and our fellow students.

“We are looking forward to working with the local community to represent Lady Lumley’s School.”
