PUPILS at Kirkbymoorside Primary School have been demonstrating their pedal power by taking part in Bikeability.

The scheme is an updated version of cycling proficiency with children completing a number of skills, including bicycle handling, cycling on quiet roads and how to deal with more complicated traffic environments.

Gareth Sleightholme, deputy headteacher, said the Year 6 pupils had completed the course over two days.

“On the first day they are based in the playground and then on the second day they go out onto the roads around the school,” he said.

“At the end they all have a small test which everyone passed and they were also presented with a certificate and goodie bag.

“They all really enjoyed it and it is a good scheme for teaching them how to keep safe when they are cycling on the roads, as well as how to look after their bikes.”
