Top chefs descend on Castle Howard

A TASTY weekend is in store for food lovers at the Ryedale Festival of Food And Drink.

Some of the finest chefs in Yorkshire will be at Castle Howard on May 25 and 26 for the event.

Chefs such as Stephanie Moon, executive head chef at the Clocktower Restaurant, at Rudding Park, near Harrogate, and James Mackenzie, owner of The Pipe and Glass Inn, at South Dalton, near Beverley, will be giving demonstrations of their skills at the festival.

A spokesman said: "We are inviting children to learn more about where our food comes from, and why it's so much fun to make. "In the Children's Cookery Theatre there will be opportunities to make healthy pizza, carrot muffins and cookies.

"We are inviting children to get their hands dirty in our Grow it, Cook it, Eat it activities, where children will plant salad leaves, radishes and cress seeds to take home, grow and eat.

Families can also enjoy the Around the Farm exhibition, presented in association with North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership.

Fifteen Ryedale primary schools have joined together to produce an art exhibition using a variety of media, taking inspiration from the farm. There is no additional charge for the children's cookery theatre.

However, it is advisable to book a session in advance at the children's marquee, as numbers are limited.

In order that as many children as possible can enjoy these sessions, a maximum of one session per child may be booked in advance.

Admission to the festival is included in admission to Castle Howard's grounds, and costs £8 for adults, £7.50 for seniors and students, and £5 for children. Tickets are available on the day. More information is available at www.castlehoward.co.uk
