Short it may be, but this four-mile circular walk has a great deal to offer. A seventh century pope, hippopotami, Robin Hood, hyenas, Orm Gamalson’s sundial, an Anglo Saxon church and an elephant or two, all within a mile or so of Kirkbymoorside.
FEBRUARY’S walk from Nunnington was decidedly flat and not much more than a gentle stroll. March, and the onset of Spring, invites a more challenging environment and this eight-mile circular walk, starting in the village of Fylingthorpe, is an exhilarating exploration of Ramsdale and Kirk Moor.
THE village of Nunnington is a favourite of mine. It sits by the River Rye, proudly independent, confident of its own charm and happy to have the National Trust-owned Nunnington Hall hidden away in a corner.
