Paul set for iron man challenge

SOLICITOR Paul Berwin's latest brief as an "iron man" could raise £20,000 for charity.

Paul, the managing partner at Berwins Solicitors in Harrogate, is limbering up for an athletic charity challenge in July and September to raise the cash for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

A long-time charity fundraiser and a committed athlete, Paul will run his first marathon in more than 25 years in September at the Nottingham Marathon, combining it with proceeds from a Half Iron Man Triathlon in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent.

The Trentham Triathlon involves open-water swimming over a 1.2-mile course, a 56-mile cycle ride and a half-marathon of 13.1 miles.

Paul, who has developed Berwins over the past 20 years, is a member of Harrogate Harriers & Athletic Club and Leeds and Bradford Triathlon Club.

He will be running in memory of his wife's late sister, Beverley Ward, who died of cancer.

He said: "This year, being my 50th birthday, my plan is to do my second Half Iron Man distance triathlon followed a few weeks later by my first marathon for 25 years.

''All this depends on avoiding injury, but if it can be done then I hope to raise several thousands of pounds for cancer research."

Sponsors should send their pledges of support to PaulBerwin@berwin.co.uk or to 2 North Park Road, Harrogate HG1 5PA.
