Farmers warned to be on their guard

FARMERS in Ryedale have been warned of a scam on renting barns.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Trading Standards said the department had received reports of farmers and property owners being offered £1,000 a month to rent barns.

He said: "The rent is paid for the first two months but none for the third month. The tenants disappear and no contact details are available."

When the landlord investigates, the barns are found to be full of tyres and faces a bill of several thousand pounds to dispose of them safely and legally.
