Women's award deadline nears

A FINAL call for nominations from York and North Yorkshire has gone out for the First Women Awards which celebrates the achievements of female role models in business.

The awards recognise those who have soared through "glass ceilings" and changed the professional landscape for future generations. The entry deadline is March 31.

Sir Digby Jones, director general of the CBI, which is behind the event, said: "I want women to feel that every rung on every ladder is within their reach in the world of business. It is vital that schools drive ambition and nurture aspiration in young girls but it is also business' responsibility to recognise and celebrate the talents that women are bringing to the boardroom."

The awards feature eight business sectors: manufacturing, finance, technology, retail and property, tourism and leisure, business services, media and science. There are two special awards: the First Women Corporate Award for the company that has worked best to promote women in the workplace, and the PwC Lifetime Achievement Award.

Further details are from www.firstwomenawards.co.uk. The awards ceremony will take place in London on June 7.
