Farmer rearing to go

A HOVINGHAM farmer has joined the meat market in order to diversify his business.

Peter Stark, of Corner House Farm, Coulton, previously only sold vegetables grown on his land from the wall around his farmhouse.

However, he has now extended his fare by adding lamb, which has been reared on his land.

He said: "We've been farming for over 20 years and we've been selling vegetables at the wall for over 15.

"We're just farmers trying to sell our own produce. The margins are better selling directly to the public and it's better for them to know where things are coming from."

Along with the vegetables, Peter has around 300 sheep and 20 cows which and he has already managed to a deal set up with one local pub for some of his lambs to feature on their menu.

He said: "The vegetables are sold on a help yourself basis. We're taking orders for lambs and are selling wholes and halves. We can sell them to demand. There are a couple we can pull out of the deep freeze but otherwise, they'll be fresh."
