Travel agent hopes to land award

RYEDALE Travel is bidding for glory in the Travel Agent of the Year Awards after being named as one of the finalists.

The firm, which was founded in Helmsley in 1964, has won the title twice since the annual competition started seven year ago.

Ryedale Travel managing director Phil Cornelius said: "The UK travel industry has seen many changes over the last 12 months.

"We believe our staff are among the best in the country and it is a remarkable tribute to them that a small rural agent such as ourselves has been voted among the three best travel agents in the region for the best part of a decade." The awards are split into seven geographic areas, with a separate award for large and small companies. Ryedale Travel is among the finalists in the Yorkshire and north-east region, for companies with a turnover of less than £20 million.

The winner will be announced at in London on Wednesday, March 22.
