Vintage pay day for charities

SIX local organisations have benefited from the work of the Ryedale Vintage Tractor and Engine Club - the organisation which promotes the preservation of old farming machinery and engines.

Cheques for £200 each were presented by the chairman, Ken Hornby, at the club's monthly meeting at Pickering Recreation Club, to representatives of the Wilf Ward Family Trust, Malton Hospital League of Friends, Scarborough Search and Rescue, Pickering 2nd Guide Troop, Vale of Pickering Scouts and Pickering Recreation Club.

Mr Hornby said the club, which was set up seven years, now has some 100 members from all parts of Ryedale and the Yorkshire Wolds.

"There is a lot of interest in tractors, especially from the older generation," said Mr Hornby.

Mr Hornby farms at Farndale, is the owner of a 1936 Standard Fordson tractor which is a rare model because of its water air cleaner.

"We are people who are keen to see old farm machinery renovated - it's an interesting hobby."

The club meets each month at the Recreation Club on the second Monday in the month. Future events include a talk on engines and tractors by Maurice Craven (February 13), Trevor Harland (March 13), and by Malcolm Brisby who will talk on Rosedale Railway.

The club is holding its annual dance on February 18, with the Dave England Band, admission £5 including supper.

Its annual Marishes Rally will be on June 4, with the charity road run on July 16.
