Charity looking for projects

A CONSERVATION charity is looking for work this winter.

BTCV, which every year helps more than 140,000 volunteers get involved in improving their local environment through undertaking practical conservation, is currently looking for projects in the North Yorkshire area.

The county branch of the organisation would like to offer its services to farmers, landowners, community groups and parish councils.

A spokesman said: "We are particularly keen to find work sites where we can undertake work such as hedge planting, tree planting, coppicing, pond management, footpath construction and maintenance, stiles, path clearance work, vegetation clearance and archaeological site restoration.

"These tasks are of course typical types of work that landowners could implement under the new Environmental Stewardship (ES) scheme which is taking over from the Countryside Stewardship Scheme this year.

"BTCV would organise the work as local day tasks or conservation holidays.

For each project, we provide experienced leaders, all the necessary tools, risk assessments, insurance cover and the relevant first aid cover.

"We are looking for work which would be completed during the period from January to May 2006."

If you would like further information or guidance on charges, contact Anne Purbrick at BTCV North Yorkshire on 01748 811970, or email North-Yorkshire@btcv.org.uk.
