Kirkbymoorside

On December 7, Bill Baldwin gave a very interesting talk on ariel spraying. Andrew Dowkes gave the vote of thanks.

On December 11, members held their ploughing match at Mark Reeves, Appleton-le-Moors.

It was a fine day with all 60 plots taken. Unfortunately some people had to be turned away.

James Dowkes thanked everyone for coming, members who helped to set up beforehand, those who helped in any way on the day and the judges, Mr Daniels, Mr Miller, Mr Lunn, Mr Douglas, Mr Kilby and Mr Beal.

He also thanked Mark Reeves for letting members have the use of his field.

Results were conventional class: 1 J Witty, 2 A Aconley, 3 R Mee; vintage trailed: 1 G Witty, 2 D Wall, 3 G Dibb; vintage mounted: 1 R Wilson, 2 G Sunley, 3 J Ploughnight; reversible: 1 B Turnbull, 2 D Teasdale, 3 S Eddon; Ryedale YFC: 1 B Turnbull, 2 D Teasdale, 3 S Eddon; Kirkby YFC: 1 B Turnbull, 2 S Eddon, 3 P Strickland.

A raffle was drawn. Thanks go to the following local firms who donated some prizes for the young farmers' classes: Otterburns, J Wood & Sons, Russells, Wadsworth & Sons, and RW Strickland.

Rillington

December 11 - several members travelled to Harrogate to participate in the county rounds of public speaking. Well done to those who competed, especially the pub quiz team who were mentioned for gaining sixth place.

Well done also goes to all members who played Snainton at pool and darts on the 11th. Snainton won the darts and Rillington won the pool with scores of 4-1 to each winner.

December 13 - members met at the church rooms to listen to an officer from the police force on all aspects of the law, particularly driving. Thanks go to Paul for a very interesting speech.

There was an extremely good turn- out of about 22. Alison Dale gave the vote of thanks.

December 18 - some members met at The Fleece in Rillington to play pool and darts against Kirkbymoorside young farmers.

December 19 - 12 members met to sing carols in and around Wintringham and Rillington area.

Thanks goes to the Websters who afterwards invited the young farmers back for refreshments.

December 20 - members met to have their annual Christmas meal. Thirty-two members went to The Wentworth Arms to celebrate Christmas together.

December 21 - members met for the last time in 2005 to carol sing around Thorpe Basset area, later travelling to Dales house for refreshments and to warm up.

Once again, if any people aged between 10 and 26, would be interested in joining Rillington young farmers in the new year they are very welcome. Please call Sarah Naylor on 07743 673706.
