Talks planned on beef problems

HARD-HIT beef farmers in Yorkshire will meet at Monk Fryston Hall, near Tadcaster, on October 26, to thrash out their problems.

The meeting aims to help beef farmers adjust to rapid changes in the industry such as those brought about by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reforms and the threat of cheap imports from outside the EU.

The fall in beef prices over the summer have hit local producers just as they were starting to recover from the impact of BSE and foot and mouth disease.

The Yorkshire gathering is one of a series of 14 meetings which will be attended by the top beef producers from across the UK organised by Farm Business magazine and sponsored by Draxxin.

They will feature number of influential speakers from organisations such as the Red Meat Industry Forum and the National Fallen Stock Company.
