S Harrison ventures out to the West

MALTON-based construction firm S Harrison has started work on its latest multi-million pound venture.

Building work has begun on a new £4 million care housing development in Bradford.

It is the company's first venture into this area of West Yorkshire and the work is being carried out on behalf of Housing 21 as part of a partnering agreement with Bradford Council, Trident and City Primary Care Trust.

The new facilities will provide 40 units of housing, communal facilities including a 25-place day centre, a luncheon club and a drop-in facility for older people from the local community.

The scheme will also offer 24-hour support and care for its residents. A second phase will see 11 bungalows developed on an equity share basis.

Building work is on track for completion by June 2006.

Duncan Long, S Harrison Construction contracts manager, said: "Harrison's reputation for providing imaginative and cost-effective solutions is spreading rapidly beyond our traditional heartlands.

"What we have put in place at the Housing 21 site is a strong corporate structure and a first-class management team, to ensure that there is no compromise on our quality standards as the business develops into its next stage of growth.

"We are currently exploring a number of other development and construction opportunities in the Bradford area."
