Dyson's US plane fiasco

Malton & Norton Golf Club's sultan of swing Simon Dyson has suffered a nightmare preparation for his debut in the US Open.

The 27-year-old star, who is based in York, was delayed by 24 hours in reaching the United States where he is to play at Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina.

And while he was teeing off on Tuesday with friend and current world number 16, Luke Donald, he was still without his clubs.

Dyson's travel travails started when a delayed flight from Manchester with his brother Nick meant they missed their connection from Amsterdam.

They were then re-routed to Paris only to find the connecting flight from Washington to Carolina fully booked, forcing an overnight stay in the American capital before finally getting to Pinehurst some 24 hours after they were due.

And to make matters worse, Dyson's personalised clubs were still in transit. Luckily, sponsors Titleist furnished him with some replacements.

Dyson will be among a three-ball comprising Arizona-based American tour professional Arron Oberholser and amateur Michael Putnam from Washington.

They will start their first round from the first tee at 8.50am American time, around 1.50pm British time on Thursday.

The trio's second round starts from the tenth hole on Friday at 2.05pm (7.05pm GMT).
