Farm meeting

FARMERS concerned about British and European policies affecting the countryside will meet with MP Anne McIntosh on Friday.

Issues such as the new Single Farm Payment and environmentally-friendly farming methods will be on the agenda.

Members of the National Farmers' Union, Country Landowners' Association and Tenant Farmers' Association will attend.

Miss McIntosh, Tory MP for the Vale of York, will hold the meeting at Motel Leeming, Bedale, at 3pm.

She said: "There will be a briefing from and a round table discussion on topics like the Single Farm Payment, Rural Development opportunities and other recent developments from Westminster and Brussels.

"I regret that the Single Farm Payment forms are so bureaucratic and complicated in nature.

"This should have been simple in nature and easier to administer."
