Dog dumped in town skip

A DOG has been found trussed up in a cardboard box in a skip at Norton and left to die.

However, a passer-by heard it whimpering in the town's Mill Street and raised the alarm.

An RSPCA spokesman said it appeared the dog was unharmed despite its ordeal but badly shaken.

It was last night being cared for by Ryedale District Council's dog warden as RSPCA inspectors and the police mounted an investigation to find out who dumped the dog. "We are also anxious to trace its owner. This was a very cruel and heartless action but fortunately the dog was found in time. It could so easily have ended in tragedy if more rubbish had been put into the skip by workmen, unaware of what was in the box. Everyone is determined to track down the cruel perpetrators of this crime."

Anyone with information is asked to ring the RSPCA on (01904) 678608.
