Police plea after pair banned from drinking in town

TWO criminal "role models" have been banned from drinking in a Ryedale market town after police said they incite youngsters to commit crime and violence.

Shane Lee Musgrave, 18, of Goslipgate, Pickering, and Jamie Michael Lord, 26, of Ings Garth, Pickering, have each been given a two year Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO).

Community safety Sergeant Cliff Edens said: "They are a bad influence on the young people of Pickering. Basically, because of their behaviour they are well known throughout Pickering. The young element looks up to them and says: 'If they can do it, we can do it'."

The CRASBOs were granted following the pair's conviction at Scarborough Magistrates Court for causing an affray, for which they received a 12-month community rehabilitation order.

Sgt Edens said: "On October 23 there was a large fight in Pickering Market Place. Up to 50 young people had been drinking excessively and this spilled over into a large melee."

He said four people were arrested after being identified through witness statements and CCTV as being the main offenders. Two of them were Musgrave and Lord.

All four were charged with causing an affray, and when officers reviewed the criminal history of Musgrave and Lord they found a host of offences that were drink-related in Pickering.

"These men without drink inside them are nice chaps," he said. "The drink is the problem with them. These CRASBOs will have brought that out to them and hopefully they will take some measures to curb their drinking."

He appealed to the public to help to enforce the orders and asked anyone who spotted either Lord or Musgrave breaching the conditions to phone 0845 6060247. Posters will be distributed around pubs and the town centre detailing the CRASBO conditions.

The CRASBO bans both Lord and Musgrave from:

Causing any anti-social behaviour

Entering any on-licensed premises in Pickering.

Consuming alcohol in public.

Being drunk in public.

Lord is also banned from contacting his ex-girlfriend Julie Ann Keld, towards whom he has been previously violent, or her father, John Keld. Musgrave is also banned from:

Damaging property

Entering The Ropery and Market Place, Pickering, between 7pm and 7am.

Inciting or encouraging others to commit any act prohibited by the order.

Lord and Musgrave are only the fourth and fifth troublemakers to receive CRASBOs in Ryedale.

Prolific offender Andrew Eddon, 20, of West Pastures, Pickering, was made subject of the first CRASBO in September.

Notorious binge drinker Elvis Aaron Presley, 40, formerly of The Maltings, Castlegate, Malton, was made subject of the second CRASBO in October. He is banned from setting foot in Ryedale or seeing his girlfriend, Debbie Austin, for five years. Troublemaker Terry Alan Downes, 15, was given a two-year CRASBO in November, banning him from going near any school in Ryedale and Ryedale Skateboard Park, Norton.
