Reports from young farmers' clubs

AMOTHERBY YFC ploughing match took place on January 30, in the park at Castle Howard. There were 74 competitors who took part in the ploughing match by the kind permission of the Hon Simon Howard.

Competitors came from far and wide to compete in this well-recognised annual event and they included the world champion James Witty, as well as one or two ploughmen competing for the first time. Well over 150 spectators watched as the ploughmen demonstrated their skills in the various types of ploughing and a very high standard of workmanship was very evident right throughout the day.

DERWENT

Members of Derwent YFC took a well-deserved break from rehersing for the county entertainments competition by scoffing their way through copious amounts of pizza and ice cream at Pizza Hut in York last Tuesday night. Not surprisingly, there was a big turnout for this meeting and everyone had a thoroughly delicious time. For the meeting on February 22, James Walker has requested that all members must bring photos of themselves when they were babies. For further information, please contact Emma Plumley on 07789 918850 or James Walker on 07879 696384.

KIRKBYMOORSIDE

On February 2, Annabel Strickland came and showed the club how to make button holes and how to do flower arranging. Richard Dixon gave the vote of thanks. On February 22, the club is holding a domino drive at Fadmoor village hall, starting at 7.30pm, in aid of club funds. Everyone is welcome.
