Do you know where these pictures were taken?

These two interesting pictures have kindly been provided by Richard Thompson, of Aix en Provence.

Richard believes the pictures where taken somewhere in York but he is not sure where.

The pictures depict Richard's father Joseph Thompson with his wife Sybill, around 1946.

Joseph was originally from Lealholm. He joined up in 1933, fought in Burma with the Northamptonshire regiment and then in Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium.

In March 1945 he parachuted over the Rhine with the 12th Yorkshire Parachute Battalion, who were part of the 6th Airborne division.

He later lived in Thornton Le Dale and ran the Riding Stables next to the Hall Hotel.

He died in 1977 from cancer.
