Young Farmers' charity tea break takes off

Members of Yorkshire Young Farmers' Club have seen a good idea take off, when they raised £1,105 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Young farmers from across the county staged a tea break with a difference in a bid to help Yorkshire Air Ambulance celebrate its fourth birthday.

The mobile tea party, complete with giant tea cup and teapot, started its epic tour of the county in Selby. The five-foot giant teapot and tea cup was driven to the four corners of the county during the week before finishing at the YFC stand at Countryside Live, Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

Members of the public helped to support the birthday celebrations by buying a small packet of biscuits from the YFC trailer as it visited market towns in their area. Donations went to help fund the work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Claire Johnston, chairman of the Development and Marketing Committee of the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs, said: "The clubs play an important role in communities across the county.

"We're delighted that we were able to raise over £1,100 to help Yorkshire Air Ambulance in such a fun way. The giant teapot toured market towns across the county and we received a fantastic reception wherever we went.

"It was also a great opportunity for us to show non-YFC members what we get up to and to encourage people to come along and give it a go. Young farmers' is open to anyone between the ages of 10 to 26-years-old, whether they're from a farming background or not."

The tour was made possible thanks to the support of York and Ripon Mitsubishi, Total Butler, The Tea Council, Swillington Trailers and Grandma Wilde's Biscuits.
