COACHES are to replace train services on a busy North Yorkshire route while major works are carried out.
First TransPennine Express has announced that trains between Scarborough, Seamer and Malton will be replaced by alternative road coach services between Sunday and Friday, February 18.
The rail line between Scarborough and Malton will be closed for six days as Network Rail carries out a £2.7 million project to renew track and realign the railway line between Seamer Junction and the station.
The alternative road service will run hourly from Scarborough, leaving from the station front in Westborough. Coaches will call at Seamer and will arrive and depart from the main station entrance at Malton.
Coaches will connect with trains leaving from Malton at their usual departure times.
Using the road and rail combination, the Scarborough to York journey time will take up to 90 minutes.
David Mallender, PR Manager for First TransPennine Express, said, "Once completed, this rail project will allow our trains to run more quickly and give passengers the benefit of a smoother ride. In the short time that the line is closed we are planning to provide a reliable alternative service."
First TransPennine Express is recommending that passengers check their travel arrangements before setting out and to allow extra time for their journey.
Special timetables have been printed, details can be found on the TransPennine website at ww.tpexpress.co.uk and information on all services is available at stations and from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
