Therapy centre is a natural for success

A COMPLEMENTARY therapy centre in a Ryedale market town is celebrating its fifth birthday this week.

Kirkbymoorside Natural Health Centre was originally the dream of four local therapists who have seen their sanctuary grow to a dozen practitioners and two students offering 14 therapies.

The Bethal Chapel centre at Tinley Garth provides acupuncture by Michael Cordel, chiropractioner Oliver Grant, osteopathy by Will Slann, reflexology by Julie Watson, Sue Weaver, Gill Sampson and student Ruth Smith, many forms of massage by Liz Sayers, hypnotherapist Robert Williams, Alexander Technique by Amanda Goreham and homoepathy by Toni Parkinson.

Also on offer is the metamorphic technique, where Julie Watson administers light touches to the spinal reflex points on the feet, hands and head, which practitioners believe encourages self-healing; neuro linguistic programming by Dave Rawlings, which is the skilled use of language, and kinesiology by Ms Sampson, a therapy that concentrates on rebalancing the energy system.

"We've decided to open on Saturday mornings from February 5. By providing relaxation and treatments at the weekend, we're hoping that some of our clients will take a break from their even busier and stressful lives," said centre manager Ruth Smith.

"We're hoping we will get more people calling in for help, advice or just a chat, we always have time, and are willing to discuss problems, concerns of possible alternatives for their individual situation."
