Moorsiders head for League Cup quarter final clash

Kirkbymoorside remain second in the First Division with one point fewer than Cayton Corinthians, although the Moorsiders have a game in hand. This could change when these sides clash at Kirkbymoorside on Saturday in the quarter final of the League Cup, kick-off 1.30pm.

The Moorsiders visited last season's promoted side Whitby Albion Rangers last Saturday. Albion scored first with a goal by Lee Brennan. The Moorsiders equalised just before half time when Alex Strickland scored.

In the second half, the Moorsiders got on top thanks to an early goal scored by Daman Cox. Alex Strickland scored his second of the game and Paul Hodgson scored 10 minutes from time with an unstoppable 25-yard shot. Aaron Rivis won the Moorsiders' Man of the Match award.

Cayton Corinthians beat lowly Ayton 4-0, with goals scored by Ben David (2), Michael Dennis and Steve Roberts.

Third-placed Filey Town won 8-1 away at Fishburn Park Reserves with Gareth Sygroves scoring four goals. Their other goals were scored by Paul Allick (2), Sean Welburn and Jamie Lee.

Fourth-placed Hunmanby Utd had a shock 2-0 away defeat at Eastfield, who move up into fifth, thanks to goals scored by Mark Vasey in the first half, and Craig McCrorie in the second half. Eastfield included new signing keeper Mark Pryce, from Wards, who beat West Pier 2-1 thanks to a brace of goals scored by the impressive Chris Dove.

Edgehill beat Third Division leaders Burniston in the League Cup 5-2 with goals scored by Jason Prosser, Martyn Ferrey, Gary Hepples, Nick Gibson and David Bell, and Paul Brady and Aaron Jenking for Burniston.

In the Second Division, Cayton Corinthians Reserves moved up into second place thanks to a point at Filey Town Reserves. The game ended 1-1, after Stuart Dickens scored to put Filey ahead and Steve Douglas replied to earn Cayton a well-deserved point. Newcastle Packet move up into third after a 1-0 away win at Filey Athletic, thanks to a goal scored by Lee Cappleman just before the final whistle.

Scalby beat Wards Reserves 5-1 thanks to goals scored by Tom Barker (3), and a goal each for John Afford and Matthew Smith.

New Ganton and Rillington shared the points in a 1-1 relegation battle. Andy Foster scored to give New Ganton the lead midway in the first half. Chris Haldenby missed a penalty for New Ganton before Rillington equalised with a goal scored by Richard Jacques.

Forge Hotel were beaten 1-0 at home by Snainton which was a result of a hand-ball incident in the Forge Hotel penalty area. Forge's key defender Steve Jay-Hanmer picked the ball up so referee Andy Pledger could do nothing but award the spot kick, which Ryan Cooper took and scored the only goal of the game. They maintain their sixth position placing in the League.

In the Third Division, Heslerton lost 1-0 away at Stakesby Arms, whose goal was scored by Ian Smith.

Seamer Sports, who are currently second, lost 2-1 at home to Duchess. After a goal-less first half, Simon McDonald scored to put Seamer ahead but a brace of Lee Croft goals won the game for Duchess. Croft was formerly with Edgehill.

Sleights had their best result of the season, beating bottom club Ayton Reserves 8-2 with goals scored by Neil Hart (4), Steve Ross, David Ross, James Dyson and Andy Kelly.
