Hall has much to offer

SEWERBY Hall is set in 50 acres of landscaped gardens and is situated two miles to the north of Bridlington.

The house, created by John Graeme, was constructed between 1714 and 1720, though the bow wings and portico date from the early 19th century.

Sewerby Hall has a number of period rooms, including Georgian, Regency and Victorian styles.

A first-floor room is given over to memorabilia charting the career of flying ace Amy Johnson, who was born just down the coast in Hull.

And the attraction also boasts a mini zoo.

The hall and gardens host numerous musical and theatrical events.

For theatre lovers, Chapterhouse Theatre Company will bring Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to the venue on Sunday, July 11.

On Sunday, August 22, Sewerby Hall again hosts Chapterhouse Theatre Company, which will this time present Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

For music fans, there are piano recitals each Thursday at 2pm.

Performing over the next few weeks will be Clive Barnby (tomorrow), Ron Schofield (July 1), John Diver (July 8) and the RevRay Trio (July 15).

Muriel Nifton will give a series of organ recitals over the coming weeks. These begin at 2pm on July 27, August 3, August 10 and August 17.

Admission is £3.20 for adults, £1.20 for children, £7.60 for a family ticket and £2.50 for over-60s.

The telephone number for Sewerby Hall and Gardens is (01262) 677874.
