A LOCAL farmer has been 'very pleased' by the fantastic response to a fundraising event he held for Yorkshire Cancer Research after he lost his partner to cancer at the age of 27 several months ago.
John Storey, who lives in Hunmanby, held the grand prize draw in the middle of April at the Spa in Scarborough.
"I expected to raise a few hundred pounds. When we found the total was over £4,500 I was delighted," said Mr Storey.
"You do this sort of thing to help raise money to fund research in the hope that, in the future, fewer and fewer people will die from the disease.
"I got an amazing response from local agricultural companies and people from the farming community and wanted to say a big thank you."
The charity relies on the generosity of John and people like him to continue its work.
Yorkshire Cancer Research's success is achieved through a network of over 50 local volunteer committees throughout the county and the research they do means that people with cancer, here in Yorkshire, are benefiting from some of the world's most advanced research.
