MUSICAL showcases are being organised across North Yorkshire offering raw talent the chance to be discovered.
Musicians are being urged to turn up at the talent shows being organised by North Yorkshire County Council.
The winning act will get the chance to spend a day in a professional recording studio, and all finalists will perform on the main stage at the annual music arts festival to take place in the summer at Tadcaster Grammar School.
Four heats have been organised by the Continuing Education Unit of the county council's education service, through its Connecting Youth Culture (CYC) project.
The showcase events are planned for Hambleton Forum, Northallerton on June 5; Selby Town Hall on June 11; the Corner Caf, Scarborough on June 18; and St Aidan's School, Harrogate on June 19.
Councillor Jim Clark, the county council's executive member for education, said: "This is a genuine opportunity for the young talent I know is out there. There's the chance to work with professional musicians and a studio and this could provide the first step to a successful career in the music industry."
Project leader Andy Elliott said: "This will give young people the chance to show what hey can do in front of their peers. It is also an opportunity for us to meet young talent we might not otherwise come into contact with."
He said the winner would spend a day in the Soundworks studio in Leeds run by Will Jackson, where they would record two or three tracks.
Anyone interested in taking part in the showcases should phone CYC on 01609 780780 or visit the website www.6kvision.co.uk.
