School ready for centenary

A SUMMER fair and balloon race have been organised to celebrate a Ryedale junior school's centenary.

The event, at Pickering Junior School on June 18, from 2.30pm to 5pm, will see pupils past and present gather to take part in five simultaneous games of croquet and traditional stalls, some selling pottery made by the children. A special centenary bear in school uniform and a calendar have been commissioned for the occasion.

About 300 balloons will be inflated for the balloon race - in the last race the winning balloon turned up in Bosnia and there were two runners up from Austria.

Owners of hansom cabs, old horse-drawn postal vans and omnibuses are invited to visit and are asked to contact the school on (01751) 472873.
