Marwood double act puts Harome through

Ryedale Beckett League - Cup matches - Division One - Harome 115 for 3 bt - Burythorpe 114 for 3 by 7 wkts. Burythorpe's A Clarkson (72no) batted through the innings, being well supported by M Beckett (20no). Charlie Marwood's four overs cost just 10 runs and he claimed a wicket. Phil Marwood (50) was the main-stay of the Harome innings, with Steve Dodsworth (20no) supporting. Andy Milner took 2 for 22 for Burythorpe.

Malton and Old Malton 113 for 3 bt Pickering 111 for 7

by 7 wkts

Pickering got off to a slow start before Col Frank (37) and Mark Shepherd (49) got the score moving. Tony Linsley (3 for 22) and Danny Foxton (3 for 21) bowled the final overs well to restrict the Pikes. In reply, Andy Raines (49) was quickly out of the blocks, supported well by Ryan Bulger (23). A run out and wickets to Ibbotson and Shepherd gave the Pikes a sniff, but Stephen Baxter (22no) guided Malton home with three overs to spare.

Duncombe Park 182 for 4 bt Swinton and Broughton 54 for 6 by 128 runs

Outstanding batting by Adam Rayner (108) saw Duncombe Park outclass an under-strength Swinton. Tom Lund (3 for 24) was Swinton's best bowler. In reply, John Towse jnr (19) top-scored. Col Humpleby (3 for 3) and Matthew Harding (3 for 9) ripped through the home side's batting.

Division Two

Heslerton 137 for 3 bt Kirkbymoorside 134 for 4

by 7 wkts

After making 50 from the first five overs, Kirkby failed to kick on to a high score. Dave Gardner made (53no) and Neil Ward (34) were the main scorers. Slaughter and Pease took a wicket each. Heslerton also started their innings well, firing 51 from their first five overs. Mick Dade's 44, Malc Spaven (31no) and D Gallagher (28) saw Heslerton through to the semi-final.

Hovingham 126 for 3 bt Nawton Grange 116 for 3 by 10 runs

Hovingham's N Adams (55) looked in fine form, although luck was on his side when he was dropped on 5. Stuart Prest (25) and A Thorpe (21) gave valuable support. Justin Palmer (2 for 29) was the only Grange bowler to show their usual form. John Holmes (46) got Nawton off to a good start and Justin Palmer cracked a quick-fire 24, but Grange fell just short.

Brawby 83 for 1 bt

Whitwell 82 for 8 by 9 wkts

Whitwell lost four wickets for ten runs in the first five overs. Adam Smith (26) and Pete Hartley (33) saw Whitwell to at least a reasonable score. Mark Fairweather continued his fine form with 3 for 11. Whitwell's depleted bowling attack was further reduced by work commitments and it was more of a bowling trial. Despite an early breakthrough by Simon Webb, Simon Thackray (46no) and Simon King (23no) knocked the runs off in eight overs against a very depleted bowling attack.

Division Three

Ryedale 157 for 7 bt Ampleforth 84 for 9 by 73 runs

Ryedale got off to a great start through Shepherd (28), Walker (66) and Shaun Smith (28). Ampleforth came back into the game with Pat Caruso claiming five wickets. In reply, Ampleforth struggled against tight bowling. Steve Burgess (38) was the only one to make a substantial score. Ryedale took wickets at regular intervals, with Hardy capturing 3 for 25, Brown 1 for 11 and Smith 2 for 13.

Wombleton 57 for 3 bt Great Habton 56 all out by 7 wkts

Great Habton had no answer to the bowling of F Howell (4 for 18) and M Turnbull (2 for 10). M Haines and J Cranage both made 19 to take Wombleton to a comfortable win. M Bulmer took 2 for 23 for Habton.

Division One

Pickering 162 for 3 bt Burythorpe 113 for 6

by 49 runs

Pickering spinners Sean Stuchbery (3 for 10) and Matthew Kings (3 for 28) had Burythorpe in all sorts of trouble. Only Andy Milner (44) made an impact for Burythorpe. For the Pikes, Mark Shepherd hit an impressive 88. Stuchbery (33) and Eddie Craggs (27) gave valuable support.

Harome 153 for 3 bt Swinton and Broughton 66 for 9

by 87 runs

James Greenlay (72), Jodie Robson (33no) and Phil Marwood (32) were Harome's main contributors. T Lund took 2 for 37 for Swinton, who were never in the hunt in reply. Greenlay (3 for 21) and Charlie Marwood (2 for 10) showed their class for Harome. M Vasey top-scored for Swinton with 18.

Division Two

Heslerton 101 for 7 bt

Brawby 97 for 3 by 3 wkts

Tight bowling from Heslerton's Andrew Slaughter and J Duffill ensured runs were hard to come by for Brawby. Simon King (36no) and Simon Thackray (20) scored more freely later on. After a steady start, with Slaughter making 23 and A Shields 22, Heslerton lost quick wickets. Needing 20 off the last two overs, Paul Nutt and J Duffill steered them home with five balls remaining. Ian Johnson (4 for 32) bowled well for Brawby, who experienced defeat for the first this season.

Settrington 127 for 7 bt Westow 126 for 3 by 3 wkts

Settrington won a thrilling match by the skin of their teeth. Needing 13 from the final over, they managed their target with a single from the final delivery. A fiery opening spell from Stephen Beal restricted Westow's top-order batsman. Andy Welford (59no) and Dave Coverdale (33no) helped Westow post a challenging total. In reply, Westow's bowlers made immediate inroads into the Settrington top order. But Stephen Beal batted superbly for 62 as his side won at the death. B Taylor (2 for 19) and D Coverdale (2 for 23) picked up wickets for Westow.

Kirkbymoorside 94 for 0 bt Nawton Grange 93 for 7

by 10 wkts

Nawton Grange started well with openers A Sleightholme (24) and M Rymer scoring freely, with 65 coming from the first nine overs. But things went down hill when they were both caught in the same Howard Mudd over. Mudd picked up 3 for 27 and Neil Ward took 3 for 19. In reply, Dave Gardner (38no) and Martin Thompson (48no) achieved the required total with two overs to spare.

Division Three

Great Habton 100 for 4 bt Duncombe Park 99 for 4

by 6 wkts

Great Habton came out tops in this battle of two sides who had yet to win. Matthew Bulmer was in good form for the Great Habton with 2 for 30 and 19. C Ford (15) top-scored for Park and also impressed with the ball, taking 2 for 18.

Ryedale 142 for 3 bt Ampleforth 107 for 7

by 35 runs

Ryedale's Tant Shepherd carried his bat for 84 and received good support from Mick Temple (19no). J Ellis bowled well for Ampleforth, with 2 for 15, and Dave Wallinger conceded only 23 off his four eight-ball overs. Ampleforth were dealt an early blow when Mike Dobson pulled his hamstring and had to retire on 14. S Burgess top-scored with 39. Ryedale's Andy Hardy and Featherstone took three wickets apiece.
