When Elvis met Buddha

THE King is coming to Kilnwick Percy.

With a swagger of the hips, Elvis will be the guest of honour at the Kilnwick Percy Hall summer fayre.

The grade II listed Kilnwick Percy Hall is to prick the ears of Elvis fans - because the King himself will be guest of honour at the annual summer fayre.

And if you have always thought you bear an uncanny resemblance to a pop legend, why not enter the pop star fancy dress competition and let Elvis be the judge?

For those too young to remember the King, there are plenty of other amusements on offer, from bouncy castle and waterslide, to children's sports, lucky dip, theatre games and facepainting.

If all this sounds a bit too energetic, you can chill out with a leisurely walk around the beautiful woods and walled garden before trying a guided meditation and an alternative therapy.

Or join a guided tour of the hall and then browse around the various craft and second-hand stalls.

Kilnwick Percy Hall itself is a beautiful Georgian mansion set in 40 acres of parkland and woods, which has been home to the Madhyamaka Buddhist Centre since 1986.

The centre provides an environment in which to relax, as well as a comprehensive range of Buddhist study programmes such as meditation classes, meditation day courses and weekend meditation retreats - suitable for the experienced or those just beginning to explore.

For more information, visit www.madhyamaka.org or (01759) 304832.

The fayre is on Sunday, June 13, from 12.30pm-5pm. Kilnwick Percy Hall is situated a mile outside Pocklington, just off the B1246 to Driffield.

Kilnwick Percy Hall Madhyamaka Buddhist Centre is seeking skilled volunteers for gardening, forestry, decorating, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work or sewing. Work is available as a regular day volunteer, or on a week-long residential working visit, with free (vegetarian) meals and meditation classes. Telephone (01759) 304832 between 10.30am and 1pm, and 2pm and 5pm weekdays.
