Cattle: Steers light to 116.5p (107.1p), medium to 124.5p (105.8p), heavy to 113.5p (104.1p). Heifers medium to 124.5p (104.7p), heavy to 135.5p (106.6p). Bulls light to 115.5p (95.5p), medium to 124.5p (93.2p), heavy to 126.5p (100.3p).
Sheep: Lambs light to 169.1p (158.8p), medium to 170.7p (157.1p). Hoggs light to 135.9p (121.9p), medium to 132.5p (118.1p), heavy to 128.3p (110.9p). Ewes to £56 (£40.25).
Pigs: Pork to 97p (89.9p), Cutters to 101p (89.7p), Baconers to 97p (86.9p), Overweights to 81.5p (75.1p). Sows and boars to 61p (43.8p).
Thirsk
Forward on May 6 at the fortnightly sale of store cattle and sheep were 167 store cattle including 30 young bulls, 242 breeding sheep, comprising 98 ewes with 143 lambs and one geld ewe. A good show of stock met a sharp trade, especially young bulls and store heifers, with longer-dated claiming steers meeting an easier trade. An excellent show of quality ewes and lambs met a sharp trade with total clearance.
Cattle: Young bulls (Green CID), Fre to £354, AA to £365, Cha to £382, Blonde to £478. Steers: AA (B) to £575 (R) to £450, Lim X (B) to £535 (R) £550, BB X (G) to £410 (B) £400, Heifers: BB X to £530, Cha to £496, Sim to £432, Lim to £452, AA to £340, Fre to £300.
Sheep: Ewes with lambs: Suff X shearlings with singles to £139, with twins to £161, Suff ewes correct with lambs to £106, Mule shearlings with lambs to £126, Mule ewes correct with singles to £122, Mule ewes correct with twins to £106, Mule ewes BM with lambs to £84, Lleyn X Suff shearlings with twins to £154, Geld Suff shearlings to £55, pedigree Cha ewe with twins to £98.
David Wilson, at Harome, takes top honours with a pen of 38kgs Texels. Judge Peter Buck of Hutchinson Butchers, Ripley and P and M Buck of Ripon went on to back his judgement by purchasing both the overall supreme champion pen for £120 (316p per kg) and the reserve overall champion and champion pen of Charollais weighing 44kgs exhibited by P and N Tattersall, Ellerton, York which realised £89 (202p).
Forward on May 7 were 1,824 head comprising 392 prime cattle including 170 young bulls, 1,273 prime sheep including 535 spring lambs and 335 cull ewes, 159 prime pigs including 83 sows and four boars.

Spring lambs: Class 1: best pen of 5 Ch lambs under 40kgs - 1 R H Dixon and Son, Raskelf (£76, selling to P and M Buck); 2 R H Dixon and Son (£61, selling to Cleveland Meat Co); 3 J G Dennis, Thirsk (£48.50, selling to Andrew Atkinson, Kettlesing). Class 2: Best pen of 5 Ch lambs over 40kgs - 1 and champion Charollais - P and N Tattersall, Ellerton (£89 to P and M Buck, Ripon); 2 J G Dennis (£67 to Cleveland Meat Co); 3 Chester and Dale, Helperby (£62 to Andrew Atkinson). Class 3: Best pen of 5 Suffolks (any weight) - 1 J T Harker and Son, Upsall (£67 to Cleveland Meat Co); 2 D and R Reed, Sand Hutton (£59.20 to Kepak, Wakefield); 3 M T Shipton, Sowerby (£70 to Rowland Agar, Ilkley). Class 4: Best pen of 5 Texel lambs (any weight) - 1 and overall champion, D and J Wilson, Harome (£120 to Hutchinsons Butchers, Ripley); 2 D and J Wilson (£77 to P and M Buck, Ripon); 3 P and N Tattersall (£69 to Rowland Agar). The sheep were kindly judged by Peter Buck, of Ripley and Ripon Quality Butchers.

Overall average to 109.8p. Young bulls light to 93.5p (87.9p), medium to 122.5p (95.5p), heavy to 124.5p (100.20p). Overall average 97.7p. Top-priced cattle were presented by Mrs S Newcombe and Sons, Carthorpe with a heavy heifer realising 146p.

Special sale of native-bred cattle and sheep. Forward on May 7 were 36 cattle and eight sheep.
