All tourist attractions great and small

MEMBERS of the Herriot Country Attractions Group in North Yorkshire have joined forces with some stately home neighbours for a three-month long 'Passport' scheme.

Not only does the 'passport' entitle visitors to two-for-one admission at the 15 centres in the county's Hambleton district, it also gives them the same discount at Newby Hall, near Ripon.

And if all the attractions are visited, that would mean a saving of £100 plus.

The scheme is being marketed using a special £100 note featuring the head of James Herriot author, Alf Wight.

"This is a great way of seeing some of our attractions at discounted prices," said Hambleton District Council tourism manager, David Shields.

"And it sees us joining forces with Newby Hall for the first time. This is the second year we have tried this scheme - last year we linked up with Jorvik in York, which was a huge success."

The following attractions are included in the scheme: Aerial Extreme, Beningbrough Hall, Big Sheep and Little Cow Farm, Falconry UK, Kiplin Hall, Monk Park Farm, Mount Grace Priory, Ritz Cinema, Shandy Hall, Sion Hill Hall, Sutton Park, The World of James Herriot, Thirsk Museum, Wensleydale Railway, and the Yorkshire Explorer.

'Passports' are first issued by one of the attractions when visitors pay full priced admission.

After that, they are stamped on each visit and the discount applies.

The scheme runs until July 27.
