New chairman in YFC for 12 years

RACHEL Wilson, 29, from Moor Monkton, has been appointed as the chairman of the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs (YFCs) for 2004-05, taking over the reins from Phil Mosley.

Rachel, who was previously chairman of the Yorkshire YFC marketing and development committee, is the federation's fifth female chairman in its 30-year history.

Members also appointed two vice-chairmen - Andrew Wood, 28, from Keighley, and Helen Booth, 24, from Earby near Skipton.

Rachel, said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge, but it's quite daunting. The Yorkshire Federation has gone from success to success in recent years and is officially the largest YFC group in the country, with over 50 clubs and more than 1,500 members.

"I've been a member of Young Farmer's Club for 12 years and I've had a go at most YFC activities, so I'm hoping that, with Andrew and Helen's help, we can make this another great year for Yorkshire."

Rachel's first task was to lead members at the national Young Farmers' annual conference in Blackpool over the bank holiday weekend.

She lives on the family farm at Moor Monkton, and works as an underwriter for farm insurance specialists AIUA, based in Harrogate.
