Forward on April 21 were 2,415 head of stock comprising 482 cattle including 271 clean, 195 bulls, 16 cows; 1,407 sheep including 234 spring lambs, 929 hoggs, 89 ewes; 526 pigs including 84 sows, nine boars.
Cattle: steers, light to 104.5p (96.7p), med to 115.5p (102.7p), heavy to 136.5p (104.4p); heifers, light to 121.5p (102.8p), med to 128.5p (106.4p), heavy to 145.5p (108.2p); bulls, light to 94.5p (92.91p), med to 123.5p (101.21p), heavy to 122.5p (101.10p).
Sheep: spring lambs, light to 186.9p (159.30p), med to 180.1p (166.01p), heavy to 160p (154.01p); hoggs, light to 139.2p (130.01p), med to 145p (132.10p), heavy to 132.5p (123.20p); ewes to £77 (£49.99).
Pigs: porkers to 100p (88.7p), cutters to 98.5p (87.2p), baconers to 96.5p (87p), overweights to 84p (73.6p); sows to 57.5p (50.01p), boars to 42.5p (48.60p).
THIRSK
At the fortnightly sale of store cattle and sheep on April 20 were 190 store cattle including 36 young bulls; 128 sheep comprising 38 ewes with 59 lambs, 26 feeding hoggs and five gimmer hoggs. A good show of stock met an excellent trade, especially older forward stores and claimable males. Young bulls on green were most sought after. All store sheep were keenly bid for and all were sold. Prices realised: FR bulls (G) to £345 per head, Fr bulls (R) to £325, BB X bulls (R) to £286, Ayr bulls (R) to £208.
Cattle: steers, Ch (R 24 mths) to £635, Blonde X (G 10-11 mths) to £610, Lim (G 10-11 mths) to £550, Lim (B 12-14 mths) to £602, AA (R 23-24 mths) to £618; heifers, Ch (24 mths) to £512, Ch (13 mths) to £460, Sim (12-14mths) to £500, Lim (12-14 mths) to £532, Fr (24 mths) to £478.
Sheep: Mule ewes bm with twins to £145, Mule ewes correct with lambs to £142, Suffolk X hoggs with singles to £122, Suffolk X hoggs with twins to £97, Lleyn shearlings with twins to £142, WF ewes correct with 11/2 lambs to £116, Suffolk X gimmer hoggs to £57, Suffolk X feeding hoggs to £49.20.
Forward on April 22 were 567 cattle including 239 young bulls; 2,572 sheep including 202 spring lambs and 194 ewes; 197 pigs including 102 sows/.
Cattle: steers, light to 103.5p, med to 120.5p (104.5p), heavy to 126.5p (102p); heifers, light to 126.5p (94.3p), med to 144.5p (105.8p), heavy to 144.5p (107.1p); young bulls, light to 85.5p (81.9p), med to 116.5p (92.6p), heavy to 116.5p (97.5p). The top-price cattle were presented by Messrs C R & C L Donaldson, Huby, at 145p (twice).
Sheep: spring lambs, standard to 168.9p (158.9p). medium to 164.6p (153.6p), heavy to 145.8p (138p); hoggarts, standard to 135.1p (119.1p), med to 135p (119.9p), heavy to 126.5p (111.3p), over 52kgs to 113p (106.5p); shearlings, light to 81.4p, heavy to 78.4p (74.3p), over 52kgs to 86.9p (77.8p); ewes light to £45 (£25.79), heavy to £73 (£51.09), Suffolk ewes to £73, Texel to £68, Mule to £56, Scotsh black-face to £42.50, horned to £22.
Pigs: porkers to 92p (80p), cutters to 99p (87.9p), baconers to 100p (81.4p); cull sows to 48.5p (45.2p), boars to 39p (36.2p).
YORK
Forward on April 22 were 358 head of accredited store stock comprising nine calves, 240 store cattle, 109 store sheep.
Cattle: Ch to £640 (ave bulls £382, steers £513, heifers £363), Lim to £640 (ave bulls £510, steers £520, heifers £351), Sim to £550 (ave bulls £400, steers £504, heifers £349), BB to £540, Fr to £420 (ave £259, steers £348), Hfd to £348, Blond to £578, AA to £328 (ave steers £278, heifers £275); calves, Fr bulls to £138 (£106), AA bulls to £175 (£175), AA heifers to £92 (£91), BB heifers to £125 (£125), Murray Grey bulls to £130 (£130).
Sheep: Suffolk X shearlings and two lambs to £150, Suffolk X ewes and two lambs to £132, Mule ewes and 1 lambs to £122.
Totals for livestock and collection centres sales over the seven days to April 26. Forward were 398 cattle including 378 live auction, no deadweight, 23 OTMs; 1,014 sheep including 377 spring lambs, 541 hoggs, 96 ewes, no deadweight; 727 pigs including 227 live auction, 34 sows and 463 deadweight.
Cattle: young bulls, Cont to 125.5p (ave 106.4p, last week 112.5p), black & white to 106.5p (88.6p, 93p); steers, Cont to 138.5p (104.5p, 107.4p), others to 103.5p (81.1p, 88.4p); heifers, Cont to 128.5p (102.7p, 108.4p).
