School makes French connection

IT was a case of 'bon appetit' at Weaverthorpe CE Primary School yesterday as pupils enjoyed a French food-tasting afternoon.

As part of their French lesson, led by Lisa Nickell-Lean, youngsters sampled a range of French cuisine, including baguettes, croissants, cheese and salami. Children tried food from four different 'shops' set up in class - a boulangerie (baker's), a patisserie (confectioner's), an epicerie (grocer's) and a fromagerie (dairy shop).

They learned new vocabulary, how to ask for food in French and filled in questionnaires to find out which food was the most popular.

Not surprisingly, pain au chocolat, gateaux and bon bons were among the children's favourites.

Teacher Lesley Duggleby said: "The children had a wonderful time. We'd like to thank Madame Lisa for organising the day."
