Farmers' £10,000 songfest

THE Singing Farmers (pictured) have raised more than £10,000 for charity in a series of four concerts.

The vocalists are all well-known throughout Yorkshire for their farming abilities as well as their singing.

They are local sheep breeder Charles Marwood, Tony Richardson, Ken Jackson, Phillip Holden and Farming in Yorkshire editor Chris Berry. Their charity concerts benefited the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution the farming charity which looks after farmers and their dependents who have fallen on hard times.

Mr Berry organised the four concerts; two were held locally, in the memorial hall at Kirbymoorside, the other venue being the village hall, Kilham

The group put on a superb musical occasion which was received with great praise and enthusiasm by an audience which filled the Kirbymoorside hall on both occasions.

"Wonderful", "fantastic" and "the best show I have ever been to" were typical comments from the audience.

Following the great success of these concerts, there are already moves in hand to try to persuade these busy farmers to continue to display their considerable talents in other venues around the county.
