An arty party in the forest

ART lovers can forage for inspiration and produce their own masterpiece in a North Yorkshire forest.

The first ever "Arty Party" crafts event - one of four planned this year - will take place in the spectacular 8,500-acre Dalby Forest, near Pickering, on Sunday, April 25.

The workshop will be led by local artist Vanessa Thompson, from Middleton, who will encourage artists to discover hidden talents through silk painting, and by using twigs and pine cones to express themselves in collage.

Ranger Peter Lockwood said: "We'll take a stroll through the forest to gather materials and then let people's imaginations run riot, with tips and suggestions from Vanessa. Dalby is the perfect place to find inspiration, with wildlife abundant and spring foliage vibrant."

Vanessa said: "The idea is to enjoy the fabulous woodland environment to the full, while having a go at producing artwork, which people can take home with them."

The workshop runs between 10am and 4pm and costs £10 per person. It is open to those aged 15 years and above. Based in Dalby Village Hall, the event includes a walk, so outdoor clothing and a packed lunch are required. Art materials will be provided.

Three more "Arty Party" events are planned this summer - including a sketching workshop with Graham Rhodes on July 24, and two more with Vanessa - a family event on July 25 and a final adult session on September 28.
