Prices at the stock markets

MALTON

Forward on April 2 were 50 store cattle and 170 store sheep.

Cattle: heifers with calves at foot to £750 from G F Winter and Son, Lim bullocks to £585 from J S Collinson, Lim heifers to £475 from J & A M Craggs, Ch bulls to £560 from F C Wardell, Ch heifers to £535 from P Burgress, BB bullocks to £692 from E Fussey, Sim bulls to £495 from S W Russell.

Sheep: Suffolk X store lambs to £53 from J G Atkinson, Texel X lambs to £52.50 from J G Atkinson, Texel shearlings and lambs to £151 from R & L Jackson, Suffolk X ewes and lambs to £132 from R & L Jackson, Mule ewes and lambs to £93 from A Temple.

RUSWARP

At the Easter show and sale of prime stock on April 5, there were forward 34 cattle and 319 sheep including 32 ewes and tups.

The cattle were judged by John White, a buyer for Yorkshire Beef Ltd and he made the following awards: champion and first prize heifer, a Belgian Blue cross (510kg) from R Young & Son, Roxly which made 126.5p, bought by R Ford of Glaisdale; first prize steer, a Charolais cross (705kg) from Mr C Hodgson, Hutton Mulgrave, which made 111.5p, bought by Yorkshire Beef, of Whitby; first prize bull was a Limousin cross from D A Noble, Harwood Dale (620kg), which made 109.5p, bought by Yorkshire Beef. The spring lambs were judged by Mr F Dawson, a buyer for Keepak Ltd, who awarded first prize in both classes to W Lewis & Sons, Kettleness, which made 200p and 196p respectively; both purchased by W P Turnbull, a buyer for J Wilson.

Cattle: steers, premium to 111.5p (108p), prime to 103.5p (101p), others to 79.5p (78p); heifers, premium to 126.5p (110p), prime to 97.5p (97p); young bulls, premium to 109.5p (105.5p), prime to 97.5p (95.5p), others 91.5p).

Sheep: lambs, standard to 194.4p, medium to 200p (194.9p), heavy to 167.1p; hoggs, standard to 148.7p (131p), med to 148.6p (134.8p), heavy to 121.8p (115.5p), overweight to 111.3p (107.5p); ewes, Texel to £50, Mule to £57, Swale to £36.

SELBY

Forward on March 31 were 299 cattle including 172 clean, 127 bulls; 1,124 sheep including 148 spring lambs, 952 hoggs, 24 ewes; 612 pigs including 63 sows/boars.

Cattle: steers, med to 133.5p (107.23p), heavy to 132.5p (109.47p); heifers, light to 96.5p (93.48p), med to 129.5p (106.45p), heavy to 138.5p (111.55p); bulls, light to 118.5p (95.81p), med to 129.5p (95.78p), heavy to 129.5p (106.08).

Sheep: spring lambs, light to 189.1p (169.28), med to 185.7p (162.49p), heavy to 152.1p (148.51p); hoggs, light to 146p (134.86p), med to 146.2p (132.78p), heavy to 131.5p (124.58p); ewes to £73 (£57.10p).

Pigs: porkers to 98p (88.98p), cutters to 93.5p (84.84p), baconers to 96.5p (80.21p), overweights to 77p (67.09p), sows to 53p (50.50p), boars to 43.5p (39.85p).

THIRSK

Forward on April 1 were 469 prime cattle including 172 young bulls; 2,881 prime sheep including 122 spring lambs and 262 ewes; 179 prime pigs including 88 sows/boars.

Cattle: finished cattle (overall ave 111.1p), med to 133.5p (121p), heavy to 125.5p (110.1p); heifers, light to 93.5p, med to 136.5p (109.7p), heavy to 149.5p (110.8p); young bulls, light to 106.5p (96.4p), med to 122.5p (95.8p), heavy to 127.5p (99.2p).

Sheep: spring lambs, standard to 193.1p (176.6p), med to 186.3p (155.1p), heavy to 135.7p (133.5p), overweight to 122.3p; hoggets, light to 108.1p (93.4p), standard to 139.5p (133.4p), med to 142.5p (130.8p), heavy to 131.5p (118.1p), over 52kg to 115.7p (109.1p); shearlings over 52kg to 84.9p (74p); ewes, light to £56 (£32.81), heavy to £75.50 (£52.47).

Forward on April 1 were 247 accredited cattle including 202 store cattle; 27 store sheep; 46 store pigs including two breeding pigs.

Cattle: store cattle (with prices to £620), Ch to £590 (ave steers £528, heifers £408), Lim to £620 (ave bulls £567, steers £516, heifers £468), Sim to £610 (ave bulls £576, heifers £488), BB to £485 (ave bulls £485, heifers £400), Fr to £400 (ave bulls £369, steers £388), Hfd to £330 (ave bulls £330, steers £297), Blond to £530 (ave steers £530), AA to £420 (ave steers £420, heifers £329), Welsh black to £450 (ave steers £450, heifers £329); calves (with prices to £305) - bulls, Sim to £275 (£213), Fr to £195 (£136), AA to £138 (ave £138), Lim to £280 (ave £216), BB to £305 (£257); heifers, Sim to £115 (£88), Lim to £112 (£94), BB to £118 (ave £97).

Sheep: two-crop ewe with two lambs to £182; two-crop ewe with single lamb to £110.

Totals for livestock auction and collection centre sales over the seven days to April 5. Forward were 341 cattle including 311 live auction and 30 OTMs; 1,273 sheep, 1,049 live auction including 172 ewes, 210 deadweight; 598 pigs including 247 live auction, deadweight 351, 36 sows.
