This is how our town was built

PUPILS at Kirkbymoorside Community Primary School donned hard hats and fluorescent jackets as their project on houses and homes was brought to life on a new housing estate last week.

They were taken on a guided tour of the West End Mews Barrett Homes development, which is still under construction, on Westfields, just down the road from the school.

Headteacher Gill Hardacre said the pupils, from years one and two, were able to see the two and three-bedroom properties at different stages of development. Their guide, from the construction company, explained to them the processes involved in building the homes and what materials were used. In their project, pupils have been comparing new houses with older ones. They are now set to build their own miniature houses in design technology classes.

Mrs Hardacre added: "It was a fantastic day. Barretts were really good in lending us the yellow jackets and the hard hats.

"They really enjoyed it. They said the first house, which had no walls and was just a shell, was quite spooky. The second house they could recognise because it was almost finished."
