Kirkdale roar to the top as bottom club thrashed

RJF Homes Beckett League - KIRKDALE United are the new leaders in the first division after they hammered bottom club Old Malton thirds 5-1 last Saturday.

Kirkdale opened the scoring when Christopher Simpson glanced in a cross from Phil Charlton. Old Malton quickly equalised through Des Craggs, but Kirkdale regained the lead before half-time when Simpson headed in again, this time from an Andy Collier cross.

In the second half, Kirkdale added further goals through Graham Jemison (penalty), Ian Prendergast and Phil Charlton.

Man of the match winners were Patrick Robinson (Kirkdale) and Stuart Gordon (Old Malton).

In the second division, Coxwold moved into third position with a thumping 5-0 home win against a below-par Gillamoor. Coxwold were four up by half-time, thanks to goals from Benoit Filar (2), Ben Kelley and Tom Kay. Coxwold's man of the match James Banks scored his side's fifth in the second half.

In the second round of the Ryedale Hospital Cup, Black Swan, Pickering, thrashed second division high-fliers Heslerton reserves 6-1. The game was switched to Slingsby as Swan's pitch was unfit to play on. Black Swan took the lead after 20 minutes as Adrian Voicu's shot went in via a deflection off Simon Dale. Two minutes later, a Paul Mann free kick found substitute Steve Sailes who scored with a superb header. Three minutes later, Black Swan went three-up when Mann scored direct with a 25-yard free kick.

Heslerton pulled a goal back after 29 minutes when the pacey Curtis Drummond scored. Three minutes later, Black Swan restored their three-goal advantage when a Mann free kick found Sailes who nodded in at the far post. Two minutes before half-time, Sailes completed his hat-trick, following a Mann corner.

Heslerton had further problems when after 52 minutes, they had Matty Cass sent off. In the 75th minute, substitute Marc Dobson scored with a header following a Simon Dale cross.

Man of the match winners were hat-trick hero Steve Sailes (Black Swan) and Wayne Pilmoor (Heslerton).

Sinnington beat Union Rovers 1-0 to gain revenge for Union's Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup victory in November. The all-important goal came after 70 minutes when David Wilkinson scored with a simple tap-in after his elder brother Stuart had done all the hard work, dribbling past three defenders. Man of the match winners were David Brown (Sinnington) and Chris Cook (Union Rovers).

Bagby and Balk, from the second division, entertained Thornton-le-Dale and the game ended 5-5 after 90 minutes. No further goals were scored in extra time and Thornton-le-Dale won the penalty shoot-out 5-4, with Bagby and Balk's two-goal hero Paul Fountain missing his vital penalty kick.

Dale nipped into a three-goal lead in the opening 22 minutes, inspired by Jeff Quilter and Adam Kendrew. They opened the scoring after 15 minutes. A cross-field pass by Aconley found Bobby Ehima, who scored a most skilful goal. Three minutes later, a long ball saw Mike Lealman lob the keeper for his side's second goal. The third came after 22 minutes when the impressive Ehima set up Dwain Young, who notched a fine goal. Paul Fountain hit back for Bagby and Balk after 25 minutes. Dale's young keeper, Anthony Garbutt, was then forced to make a couple of fine saves, but he could not prevent Bagby and Balk scoring their second goal after 40 minutes through Andrew Parkinson.

After 50 minutes, Adam Kendrew increased Dale's lead. Anthony Hewson pulled a goal back for Bagby and Balk eight minutes later. But Dale scored their fifth goal after 65 minutes when Nick Beech scored, beating three men before slotting the ball into the goal. Tom Kendall scored Bagby and Balk's fourth after 74 minutes. Their equaliser came ten minutes from time, thanks to Paul Fountain.

After a goal-less extra-time, it was Dale's Mark Aconley who slotted home the decisive strike in the penalty shoot-out to put his side into the quarter-finals. Man of the match winners were Andrew Parkinson (Bagby and Balk) and John Darlison (Thornton-le-Dale).
