Pickering down to one delivery a day

ONE delivery a day for mail is about to come to Pickering households.

Royal Mail is making changes to deliveries in Pickering (postcode YO18) from January 26 as part of the move to single, daily deliveries throughout the country.

First and second deliveries will be amalgamated and customers can expect to receive all their post in a single delivery for the day by around lunchtime.

A spokesman said that most mail will be delivered "well before" this, with deliveries starting from 7am. For some customers, there will be little or no change to their current delivery times.

Delivery arrangements for business customers will remain unchanged.

The Royal Mail spokesman said that because of the changes, the current staffing of 22 at Pickering will be reduced by one, but no compulsory redundancies are planned.

Customers who want their mail early in the day will be able to collect it from the delivery office from 8.30am on request - a free service. Customers should apply in advance so that the security of the mail is protected.

Application forms are available at the delivery office, Thornton Road Industrial Estate, Thornton Road, Pickering, YO18 7AG or from Royal Mail's customer services on (0845) 602 4536.
