FARMERS of organic poultry in North and East Yorkshire look set to benefit from a special internet service from Sainsbury's.

From February 1, the supermarket's on-line customers will be able to trace the organic chickens they buy back to the farm on which they were reared.

Louise Cole, the National Farmers' Union's poultry adviser in North and East Yorkshire, said today: "This is an excellent idea. This kind of verification will help customer confidence and stimulate growth in demand.

Sainsbury's say that its customer research suggests that British consumers are increasingly interested in where their food has come from and are keen to support British farmers.
