MBF back in contention

Leeper Hare York and District League Premier Division

Malton Bacon Factory 3, Rufforth 1

Despite the absence of key players Lee

Rushworth, Andrew Thornton and Nigel Allen, MBF won a penalty in the first 35 seconds when Darryl Craggs was brought down. Craggs made no mistake from the spot.

Minutes later, Phil Marwood had a terrific shot tipped on to the woodwork. Although MBF were always in charge, Rufforth showed some neat passing. Factory's stand-in keeper Mark Tansey was in excellent form and cleaned up any long-range shots.

Within two minutes of the restart, Simon Collins increased MBF's lead. Having won the ball on the halfway line, he left two defenders chasing him before skilfully shooting wide of the keeper.

Within ten minutes, the visitors had pulled one back. Nicky Cass came on as striker and his composure calmed the whole team. Phil Marwood and Jamie Barker began to excel and a number of

players had shots on target.

MBF had to wait until the 87th minute to sew up the match, Sam Lander heading home a Cass cross.

This win brought MBF back into title contention as leaders Dringhouses lost at

home to Wigginton. Next week, Factory visit Bishopthorpe.
