    OUR district council's bold but extraordinary decision to declare Ryedale a GM-free area has rekindled the embers of the great debate. I am not sure what practical effect this unilateral declaration can or will have, as presumably the council only controls the land which it owns, but I should be interested to hear if there are further implications. read more

Most has been sold to a merchant straight out of the field, but we have kept enough for young stock and our old horse Rupert. He spends the summer in the company of the tups, but usually comes in for the night to stop him from getting too fit on meadow grass. As his stable has been hijacked for storage recently, he has got used to staying out and is not remotely interested in coming up to you for a chat. We have a feral horse. read more
