Chip shop backs children's charity

OWNERS of a Ryedale fish-and-chip shop have generously pledged to give one night's takings to the BBC Children In Need.

On Thursday every penny spent at Ampleforth Fisheries, West End, Ampleforth, will be sent to the appeal by owners Colette Southwell and Christian Brown, who took over the business three months ago.

"We have always done something for Children In Need. It's the biggest and the best children's charity, and the appeal is such a massive thing," said Colette, 32, who formerly worked at a bank in North Lincolnshire before deciding to go into business with her partner.

"It's something that everyone should support. No child should have to suffer. There should be no poverty and abuse."

The shop will be open between 4.30pm and 8pm. Fruit and vegetable supplier Peter Taylor's, of Pickering, has agreed to give the business a couple of sacks of potatoes free of charge for the event.
