8,000 sheep record at Fadmoor

A LARGE crowd gathered from all parts of North Yorkshire and beyond for the annual second show and sale of Moor and Down cross breeding sheep and store lambs at Fadmoor on October 23.

With a record of over 8,000 sheep forward, a near total clearance was achieved by the auctioneers. Excellent prices were maintained throughout all departments. Auctioneers were Cundalls of Malton. Raymond Flintoft, of Bransdale, was the judge of both Swaledale and Scots breeding sheep.

Show results were as follows: Best pen of Swaledale ewes: D Hanson, J S Wood, B Aconley. Best pen of Scots ewes: D Hanson. Best pen of Swaledale gimmer lambs: F Eddon. Best pen of Scot gimmer lambs: R J Ford.

Other prices achieved were as follows.

Swaledale ewes to £56 from D Hanson, Fylingdales. Scots ewes to £42 from D Hanson, Fylingdales. Overall average of horned ewes £23.05. Swaledale gimmer shearlings to £60 from J Whitwell, Leaholme. Scots gimmer shearlings to £50 from R Watson, Allerston. Overall average of horned gimmer shearlings £46.18. Swaledale gimmer lambs to £48 from F Eddon, Lockton. Scots gimmer lambs to £35 from J R Ford, Sproxton. Overall average of horned gimmer lambs £33.24. Suffolk X ewes to £65 from Castle Hill Farms (ave £55.20). Suffolk X gimmer shearlings to £88 from W H Clubley (£84). Mule ewes to £68 from G I Marwood, Harome (£33.67). Mule gimmer shearlings to £92 from R S Flintoft/T Allanson (£85.96). Mule gimmer lambs to £80 from Rob Flintoft/D R and R Robinson (£62.14). Suffolk gimmer lambs to £56 from D J and S Tomlinson (£47). Swale wether lambs to £26.20 from S Eddon, Levisham (£15.31).

Store lambs: Mule lambs to £36.40 from J and D Stenton. Suffolk X lambs to £46.20 from T L Stanforth. Texel X lambs to £46.60 from D Bentley. Ch X lambs to £45 from T L Stanforth. Overall average of store lambs £33.09.

Accredited and non-accredited rams: Suffolk shearling rams to 240gns from A Harper and Son. Suffolk ram lambs to 460gns from W H Clubley and Son. Texel shearling rams to 250gns from P Jewitt and Son. Texel ram lamb to 250gns from C Fawcett.

Ch rams to 310gns from Alderson, Carthorpe. BFL shearling rams to 460gns from T Alanson and Son, Stape. BFL ram lambs to 155gns from S Dowson. Swale shearling rams to 170gns from M A Cornforth.
